I've been using Sky broadband since they bought UK Online and therefore acquired me as a customer. A couple of years ago I switched from standard broadband to fibre - originally the 35Mbps package, but they upgraded me for free to the full 72Mbps.

Their customer service is generally very good, they don't treat me like an idiot. The standard broadband was pretty reliable but I had a couple of faulty routers over the years. Since I switched to fibre it's been rock solid and I can usually get the full 72Mbps down and 18Mbps up.

My only gripe is the price. Without any TV package and with PAYG calls this is costing me £44/month - line rental plus broadband. But looking at reviews of other providers on here, I'm probably better sticking with what I've got than switching to a cheaper but less reliable provider.

Hi i have been with sky for 10yrs recently had my 1st hic-up in broadband service from them, they have sorted the matter out now,but i do advise speaking to sky customer solutions team instead of call center staff as they are mostly not I.T or broadband specialists,i am receiving the full 20meg as i only stay a short distance from exchange. I would say one incident in 10yr is outstanding very pleased with Sky...

I had been with sky many years and left 2015, joined sky broadband and now leaving, they charged me £8 for leaving 1 day before contract end date. Now sorted with Michael who works from home. Top bloke removed charges.

I'm coming to the end of my 18 month contract with Sky so feel I'm in a good position to write a review. It's my first house so I don't have a previous ISP to compare to at the property.

In terms of setup, there was a slight delay to the activation date, which I was well informed about. Luckily I went away on holiday for a week a few days after moving in, so the service was activated by the time I returned. The router was delivered through the letterbox and only took 5 minutes to setup.

The router has decent coverage but unfortunately can't reach the back of the house on the first floor. It's an old house with thick, solid walls so this is understandable. I setup an old BT homehub as an access point upstairs which means I now get coverage throughout the whole house. The router works well out the box, there are a few things you can change and monitor via the My Sky smartphone app and there are some more advanced security features you can setup by navigating to the routers local IP address in a web browser.

I'm on the 36MB/s package and I've been getting that without issue. In terms of reliability, other people on Sky in my area have reported issues but I haven't experienced any. I've had a reliable connection whenever I've need it and there hasn't been significant throttling back at peak times.

Now that my contracts coming to an end, the price is set to increase by £15 per month from £27 to £42. I looked around for some better deals off other providers, along with what Sky could offer a new customer on my package (£25 p/m). I also checked online what upgrade deals they could give me and the only available upgrade was guaranteed 100MB/s for £27 per month (same as what I'm currently paying); faster speeds is nice but 36MB/s is enough for me most of the time, I'd rather save a few pounds. Armed with this information, I phone up Sky to see what they could offer over the phone (you know, these companies always say they can give you the best deals if you ring them up). I explained that I'm happy with the speed but want a cheaper price, the best they could come up with is the same speed for £27 per month - exactly what I'm paying now, which would also get me guaranteed 100MB/s if I upgraded online.

Overall, I've been happy with Sky in terms of speed and reliability but they've been unwilling to give me a competitive renewal price. I'm now moving to EE who offer 36MB/s for £23, plus £100 topcashback on top as well as 5GB extra mobile data.

I had earlier used Sky from September 2012 to August 2015 and had zero issues. I switched to TalkTalk in August 2015 and it was the worst decision I'd ever made. I'm seeing a lot of reviews on this site quoting that Sky are bad, and for what it's worth, my review is only anecdotal after all, but I must say that moving back to Sky from TalkTalk this month feels like the best decision I've ever made. I think, like other reviewers have pointed out, Sky's ratings are a bit on the low side because a lot of people bother to leave a review only when they've had a bad experience (though this should be the same bias for all ISPs!). Anyway, I'll leave that determination to better statisticians than myself! I've found that Sky's customer service and billing practices and contract renewal/cancellation practices are lightyears ahead of TalkTalk and I'm happy that I'm back with Sky now. What with hacks of my personal information at TalkTalk (my entire household began receiving threatening scam calls after the infamous TalkTalk hack) to TalkTalk forcing me to enter into a new, higher priced contract with them for 18 months when I moved house, to failing to activate my broadband at the new house and blaming OpenReach despite 3 engineers all unanimously declaring that TalkTalk had not switched on the line at the exchange, to attempting to bill me in advance for 2 months of broadband when I had not had a single byte of data at my new address thanks to TalkTalk not switching on the line at the exchange, it has been an absolute nightmare dealing with them. I'm super glad to be back with Sky, they had the service up and running as soon as I switched to them and have had zero issues with my connection both in the past and ever since I switched this month!

My experience with Sky has been very good and I am pleased that I switched. I use a basic mobile phone - I am not a fan of mobile phones and what they can do to our brains, so I use it sparingly. I have unlimited landline phone calls instead which works well. I use my router with my computers.

Sky customer service is excellent. Their staff are nice. I had a dreadful time with TalkTalk who gaslighted me throughout my contract so it was a relief to switch to a company that provided me instantly with what I requested, without arguing and lying about a product that did not work and was not fit for purpose. I am referring to the Huawei router that TalkTalk uses which is unreliable rubbish that should have never been sold to customers and I am disgusted and appalled that TalkTalk get away with conning the public on a daily basis with the mind control tactics their time wasting customer service use on customers.

Sky broadband is fast and smooth and I am grateful to have a router that does the job.

My broadband has been consistently good, if it occasionally stops it comes back on again quickly. YouTube live streaming gets delays but not a major issue. I can watch YouTube videos without seeing the service dropping every 3 minutes (time and time again) as it did with TalkTalk and some days there was no service at all. The fast broadband router is great for those with arthritis or problems holding objects, it is light and flat and easy to handle. The gentleman I spoke to at Broadband.co.uk was efficient and very helpful.

Great service, having slow speeds so called up and spoke to a very friendly guy. Ran through some checks and all ok with the line so he went through changing the wireless channel with me and it's worked! Really quick and easy to resolve with lovely staff, after all things do go wrong but it's how it's dealt with that matters.

We have been with sky since it was first introduced both our landline and Sky boxes have been part of our TV entertainment accessories for years. Their customer service is beyond excellent, broadband is an absolute bargain given the reliability and efficiency of any requirements or problems if any arise has always been dealt with in a professional and an amazing manner. They really are one of the best established companies around, I would advise everyone to sign up with Sky.

After some discussions with different Sky help centre staff over a few days my speed has been increased from avge 1.7Mb to 3.1Mb.
    Line seldom drops.
Speed about best I'm going to get this far from exchange over copper wires.
Now that call centres back in UK I found staff very helpful but as usual some better than others at actually helping out.

Personally I have always had excellent Sky broadband service and I've had them for years. When there was a problem everything was done to resolve it and in the end it turned out it was a telephone box in the street that was the cause. It did take a while to resolve but even the engineers scratched their heads on this one. I just wanted to counter all the negatives written on here. However Sky can be an absolute 'b' when it comes to trying to change your package. I mean I have just cancelled Netflix with the touch of a button. But I'm on a long free phone call wait to speak to Sky customer services and even if I get through I just jnoiw I'm going to bve harangued

Just recently switched to Sky from Plusnet.

Had a great services with Sky before but was unable to get it in my new area, switchover took less than 10 days and now I'm flying.

They've beat all other suppliers hands down, including BT at £12.50 a month and a 16.5 Meg connection (which is way above the national average & double what I had with Plusnet) I'm a happy chappy! lol

Would recommend for any area! Unless your lucky enough to get cable or fibre!

The broadband was initially set up swiftly with no fuss and never had any problems with it. The speed was decent for standard broadband (decent enough for my needs anyway). We had some problems with the broadband when we moved house (this was found to be the openreach socket or line at fault) but the Sky customer service person dealt with this excellently. The guy over the phone (which was from a UK based call centre) helped me eliminate all the basic problems and then he booked engineer when it was found that it was a more serious problem. The internet was fixed about a week later with minumum fuss and has been running perfectly ever since. Would definitely recommend.

I subscribe to Sky's Unlimited 17Mb ADSL package and I'm lucky enough to live less than a mile away from the exchange. My Sky Hub syncs at over 23Mb down and 1.2Mb up. My actual line speed is about 20.8Mb down and 1.1Mb up which is a limit of ADSL overheads.

Providers can only advertise an upto speed that 10% of their customers receive, they used to all claim upto 24Mb. Providers are still sending the full 24Mb so some customers such as myself will get faster than the advertised speed.

It's only gone down twice in a year, both of which were due to power cuts knocking every house/business out in the area.

The Sky Hub that is provided is pretty appalling if I'm honest. I can sit less than a metre away and the Wi-Fi signal is terrible, so much so that I paid out of my own pocket for a cable router. Sky claim that these hubs have "unbeatable" Wireless signal yet the most complained about thing with Sky is the poor Wi-Fi connections. To top it off the hub isn't the prettiest of things, it's finished in glossy black which is codeword for "I attract finger prints, dust, hairs and more!" and it gives you absolutely no information at all.

The lights on the hub are constantly solid, no flashing to indicate activity or anything. God help you if your paranoid and think someone has hacked your hub, you'll be on the built-in interface checking the attached devices every 5 minutes!

Amazingly, in this day and age, the hub is also only b/g/n and doesn't even feature 5GHz, gigabit Ethernet or even a USB port like most other providers for NAS.

I have been using Sky broadband for over 4 years now. The broadband speed is was always really good and customer service helpful. The only bad thing is an additional charge for not having Sky TV(!) I have never opted for using the TV service so don't understand why they charge me for that? Would not move to different provider if they have better offers for existing customers.

I've been with sky for almost 5 years now with the full broadband and TV package on the basic unlimited broadband. We have had issues when we moved in with the phone line but this was a BT Openreach issue and sky were very helpful in sorting it out promptly. The service was great quality with speeds at or above the guaranteed speed, the Router performs great in the house, not so great in the back garden, that's probably the only point I could fault them on technically.

Customer service has always been great with friendly helpful people on the phone or quick on the new messaging service.

The only other point I could fault them on is the price, it may partly be because we have the full TV package which is quite pricey but worth the money.

I switched to Sky a couple of months ago, and have to say that the service so far has been great.

Previously,my ISPs were Tesco and before that Talk Talk. Each time I switched, I had encountered numerous problems - so I was expecting the same type of hassles again. Including not being connected for a couple of weeks due to "technical difficulties" as I live in an old victorian house with very old GPO copper wiring. But, no. The switching process was seamless, Sky kept their promise about the connection dates; their kit arrived early and in working order; my account was set up instantly and as a totally new customer I could track my order on line - minutes after signing up. On connection day I came home later that evening, plugged the kit in and switched it on. It connected through and worked as it should.

I was very impressed with how slick and seamless the service was.

During the first week the signal was bedding itself in, so was a bit up and down - I was warned about this. I also turned off the Sky Broadband Shield filter, as this did cause a few initial problems - but it's fine now. However, on occasion, the signal will just drop during peak demand - usually Saturday evening. So I have to run a diagnostic with the router via my chromebook - and things are up and running within a minute or so. I put this down to very old GPO wire, streetside, and an old exchange which is currently being upgraded.

Sky have just made their unlimited fibre service available, as an upgrade, so I assume that the work on the exchange has now been completed. I have just ordered this service and look forward to having a speed of 40mbs.

There are so many negative reviews about Sky here that it is easy to jump to conclusion that their service is total crap is not worth trying. But then you should bear in mind that most people care to leave a review only when their experience is negative. Luckily I had a friend who had Sky broadband and she was quite happy with them. Since I had a very negative experience with Virgin Media and Sky at the moment was willing to give a generous discount I decided to give it a try and I don't regret it. My average download speed is 12 Mbps and is quite reliable. The only minus I can think of is that it takes a long time to get through their support if you need something but I can live with that. All in all I guess it's a lottery and depends on your location: you might get unreliable connection and poor speed or things might be quite good as they are in my case.

    Hi there,

I have been with Sky for over a year and I have fibre speeds all over my 4 bedroom house! I have seen places with Sky broadband that had appalling speeds and even worse coverage, which is frustrating.

I had Wi-Fi UK's MESH network installed in my house. The guys built a network using my Sky broadband and boy, is it fast! I get over 70 Mb/s in every room.

Blame poor Wi-Fi not Sky, please, the internet quality is good. There is a brilliant solution to always dropping Wi-Fi signal and it is called mesh Wi-Fi.

I have been with Sky around 3 years ( when they took over o2) and find them very good. I get though in a couple of minutes to a friendly uk call center and they always have managed to solve any problems I have had ( mostly speed- I probably expect too much but I do get aroun 39mbs). The internet does drop out now and again ( maybe every couple of months ) but only for seconds or sometimes minutes. When the router went wrong they sent a new one straight away. I would not go to another ISP based on the reviews of some of them

I'm writing this as an ex sky customer having switched to EE. I want to move back go Sky. Ok, it's a big more, but worth it for no broadband glitches in iplayer, remote working, better Xbox performance.

Having been with BT for a number of years, took the plunge and went for a Sky deal. We are based in rural Norfolk, so I was worried changing from BT would be a mistake, but I was wrong! Our speeds have been so much better, sitting at around 11mb, compared to 5mb. We are now at then end of our year contract and I have only had to call them once during that time as we had a couple of days of drop outs. The customer service centre was fabulous and all was sorted. Now going to sign up for another year as confident in their products.

Absolutely Gobsmacked that you have to pay a £20 fee when you are a returning customer, I certainly won't be returning after my contract.

I have had a problem with my broadband speed since 2nd January 2016. The concern was discussed with your Support team and no concern was found, therefore i was advised to have my phone line checked. I have had a Technician from BT Openreach check the line at a potencial cost of £151 even though all he did had no effect on the speed of the Broadband! I have been back in contact with Sky Technicians to explain that there as been no change in the speed of my Broadband or phone.
The issue was revisited and it was found that the speed had been set at a reduced level instead of the highest broadband speed, which i pay for. The Support Team Member assured me that any cost occured for the BT Openreach Technicians visit would be absorbed by Sky. I am very greatful for this gesture.

    Many thanks

The ping is absolutely amazing,1ms on speedtest and ~12ms in games,on wifi so i guess the router is doing good, just would like wireless ac,but to be honest the speed is very reliable,36-38mbps and constant 7-8 uplaod.

Cant really comment on customer service, though i guess the delivery driver was nice.

Very reliable connection, though in my opinion the range could go a little longer,1 bar from the garden :(

I was originally with Be internet, and was very happy eith them, but they just took way too long to upgrade to fibre, which they still not done.

So I waited and heard about sky fibre.

I contacted them via their web chat, asked a ton of questions, and after a good talk decided to try them.

They made changing over very easy, did most of the work for me, took me through the sign up process too.

Now I have been with sky since 08/may/2013.

{I do get a little down time once every now and then, think longest was 2 hours, which I called them, and by time I got through to them, and started to ask them to check line etc, it came back on.

I do get the odd quick time out, say a few minutes and notice my ip has changed, so I am guessing it their hardward refreshing all the ip address's, which is quite normal when on a dynamic ip.

I would say I have a 98% to 99% uptime, and service is usually always fast too.

I have used it to run a shoutcast stream to secondlife, a web server, downloaded heavily, watched so many hd clips and concerts off youtube, all with no problems.

My only one real gripe is that they won't allow thier customers to have their details for the router, so your stuck with the one they provide, so home networks are limited speed wise.

But overall I am very happy with my service.

Broadband speed hasn't been bad at all, if i did have an issue (once), their tech team were really helpful. i live quite far away from the actual box so what i get is very responsible

Customer service is within the UK, least everyone i have spoken to have been. I see this as a good thing, keeping jobs within the UK. NOT for any other reason before someone gets soft.

Called within a view of leaving as Vodafone seemed to have a better deal. Called Sky and within minutes i was offered a package with a discount of £120 for the year. taking into account the contract time with Sky was less, i don't have to mess about at all with changing providers. I was pretty chuffed. Never had an issue with payment, can't see how you would with a DD. Service in comparison to TALKTALK is a dream. Wouldn't ever dream of using their services again.

Well I've been with Sky Broadband for about 10 years and the only reason I'm here today is because I'm thinking of switching to Fibre Internet. I've looked at the reviews of several ISPs and they are all absolutely apalling. Out of curiousity I thought I'd look at Sky reviews.
I am genuinely shocked as the high number of bad and frankly terrible reviews.
Over the years there have been a few occasions to contact sky broadband customer service, one where my internet connection kept dropping out, and eventually an engineer was sent to test the router which had failed. Sky promptly sent a new one and the problem was resolved. Another time a few years later, I had a similar problem, again an engineer was sent who diagnosed a line problem under my driveway. It took a few days for BT to install a new line, but after that the problem was cured. I have to say that I have always found their UK based technical support excellent, helpful and patient as various diagnostic procedures were carried out to decide on a course of action. I just wish that as many satisfied customers would post reviews, as disgruntled ones so that a fair balance is maintained. It is unfortunate that BT openreach are often the middle man involved in Internet work, and it is a matter of public record how bad they are. No matter which ISP you are with, make sure you review them, not openreach.

I have been with Sky for three months. Unimpressed that the billing failed to give the advertised price/discount on the second month and this did take three calls to sort out and a day of waiting.
However - all has been sorted and the broadband service has been consistently high speed and stable. The router isn't brilliant but that is of Zero consequence as my setup does not require it (Devolo wireless power line).
The one irritating thing Sky did last week was to increase their call prices mid-contract. I despise this manoeuvre and so went to leave them under the 30-day option. However after trying to move to an appalling provider I have stayed now with Sky.
Why? - It makes such a difference being able to speak to somebody in the UK. Not worth £4 a month saving to lose language.
