Truly a dreadful service, I am stuck where to start? The pitiful quality of the TV package, woeful broadband speed & reliability or the complete lack of customer service. TV package is so poor I have gone back to SKY and just wearing the cost till contract runs out, BB & tele line are unstable, down load speeds vary from 300kbs to 900kbs - connection drops regularly - customer service..just book a call and see how they perform.

According to my router-modem, the physical line is still rock-solid, with very good BER numbers and an OK speed for the line length. It hasn't changed.

The alarming decline in the service speed and quality, over the last few months, is thus nothing to do with BT Openreach. It's all to do with TalkTalk. I infer from the pattern of low speeds at peak times (evenings and weekends) that their part of the network just does not have the capacity needed for the modern world of fast connections and streaming video. With IPv6 a necessity for the future, their lack of apparent planning for this is another negative sign.

Locally, the funding for superfast broadband is in place. It feels like a bit of a gamble to switch now, not yet knowing what deals will be available. But Talktalk doesn't look like an option.

Having changed from BT last month I am happy with all aspects of the service so far from TalkTalk. The line is very stable, as it was with BT, but my speed is now 2.6 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up compared to between 1.4 and 1.9 Mbps down and 0.25 - 0.35 up with BT.
My attenuation is 61dB (4.3 km from exchange)with a SNR of between 2dB and 3dB (was the same with BT but with lower speed).
dependent on time of day - but the line is always stable and has never dropped out during normal operations.
The line mode is G.Dmt ADSL and I have asked TalkTalk to switch me to ADSL2+ to see if there is a small improvement in speed (distance from exchange could make this improvement marginal but it's worth a try).
Please note that the rating above relating to speed is not a criticism of TalkTalk but just a fact of life based on the length of the line!
In addition to a much lower price than BT charged, BT's service was limited to 10GB - TalkTalk's service provides for unlimited data. Other telephone charges are similar (£8.00 all in for Anytime Calls and Unlimited Broadband plus an annual line rental of £120, paid up front)
The only misgivings I had before changing, which actually caused me to hesitate, was the lack of trust I had in the sales people with whom I spoke to at TalkTalk - their technical knowledge was extremely limited and this led to them giving me information that I knew to be incorrect. In the end, I put this down to ignorance rather than any attempt to intentionally mislead and made the choice to switch to TalkTalk on the basis of a recommendation from a neighbour with similar technical knowledge to myself and on whom I knew I could rely.
Initially TalkTalk set my speed lower than it was with BT but I spoke to a technical engineer who increased it to 2.17 Mbps (IP throughput) and via my new Billion 7800DXL Router I've tweaked the SNR from 6 dB (target SNR) to 3 dB to improve the speed to 2.6 Mbps (3040 Mbps at the router).
I'm very happy so far with the service from TalkTalk.

NEVER EVER use Talk talk services.
    Customer service is poor.
They have bad relationships with their engineers who don't give a ... about your broadband whatsoever.
I simply wasted more than a week of my time resolving a problems with Talk Talk. Terrible provider, worst ever!

Talk talk are a shambles, my father has just had a stroke and desperately relies on his telephone, yet they can't even turn it on when promised. Trying to get anywhere with their customer service - well where do you start, all their advisors on the web chat are 'busy' presumably dealing with all their other unhappy customers ! No option to get them on the phone ! No help what so ever !! Appalling customer service, I wish we had never gone with them, cheap yes, service no.

    Can not rate low enough.
One month later after broadband was meant to be activated till have no service, for which Talktalk are charging as if it was all fine.
Called their customer service 8 times, each time the matter was transferred to the senior engineering team, each time they were not able to solve the problem and asked to call customer service again.
The engineer came to inspect the line and yet again was told to contact customer service as line was dead.
The irony is that they just charged £50 as connection fee.
Definitely the worst service I have seen so far

After being with aol/talk talk for over 20 years, we suddenly found our broadband speeds dropped so low we could hardly do anything on the internet. We tried to solve the problem over 4 months!! But unfortunately we just kept getting fobbed off and passed from department to department, an engineer came out and told us one thing then the people on the phone would tell us another insisting that the speed had not changed and that we were receiving the same speeds as we always had, which was completely wrong. So eventually we decided to change provider, as we had never in the 20+ years missed a payment we expected this to go smoothly (wrong!) they then sent a bill for over £100 as final payment owing, so I wrote back asking what it was for and received another bill back for a lesser amount, again I asked what for. We got no reply and no explanation just a letter from a bailiff company stating they had brought the debt. Great after 20+ years of monthly payments apparently as it turns out if an engineer has called within the last 3 month, even when the fault was with them and never resolved apparently it's in the small print that you have to pay for the call out! At least now after changing to BT I can use the internet to write this, with good broadband speeds.

This is Talktalk: they call you to tell you you've cancelled your direct debit. When you query this with your bank, they tell you that in fact Talktalk have set you up with TWO direct debits. So you cancel one. But it's too late - Talktalk have already taken two lots if money from your account and then also had the audacity to charge you a cancellation fee for cancelling the extra debit they set up!! Then they deny it all and say the bank must have set up two people with my account details. The bank do not, and cannot, set up a direct debit for you - they told me Talktalk did it, but without my permission.

You can't complain to Talktalk as they don't understand and don't care. When I had technical difficulties, the person who picked up did not understand the word engineer. Literally.

The worse customer service i ever experienced. Poor understanding of English. Make it difficult as poss to cancel account. Don't answer their phone. When you ask to cancel account they want your family to take over your account. Keep you on hold forever on a premium rate number. I still haven't cancelled, although i stopped payments. Now i get monthly invoices for a service which has been stopped and still can't get through to cancel the account. I now owe over £70 for services i don't receive and it keeps increasing. STAY CLEAR!!

The day after I started the contract, the problems began. The internet connection drops about 20 times per day and every time I report it I am asked to monitor the line for 24 hours. It has been 3 months of the same but no one is interested in a permient fix.Furthermore talktalk wants me to pay the cancelation cost if I end the contract and refuse to accept that they are providing a poor service. Worse broadband provider. If you are rural, disregard the cost and stay clear. Literally a black hole of incompetence.

Probably the most frustrating customer service I've ever had to deal with. Very difficult to get a straight answer. Had to speak to 5 different people before I could find out if they had been given my contact details to other companies.

They provide a terrible service, which is easily beaten by ALL of the competition, so may as well not have ever been with them in the first place.

Tried to cancel and was charged £20 for my call! Then they didn't even let me cancel, after being kept on the phone for an hour!

Why is there no freephone number? Also, they are obsessed with getting a landline number before they can do ANYTHING - I don't have a landline with them? Unhelpful, dishonest morons.

You cannot trust this company - avoid at all costs, or your cost are set to rise...

Firstly the customer service is attrocious. Not only do you struggle to understand Indian call center, but, at the end of each call if you are unhappy they ask would you like to raise a complaint. Complaints are dealt with terribly in which they leaders who deal with them don't know protocol but follow profit motives. The internet speed on fibre was a step up and can be really quick, however, it is very unstable and often drops to as low as 4-5mbps. And in a house watching multiple things is dreadful. The routers suck which options on the routers website is poor. Talktalk quite clearly slow peoples internet speed at peaktimes, sometimes so significantly it's ludicrous.

Bunch of thieves, avoid this company at all costs. On top of this especially avoid it's relation companies: AOL, Tiscali etc etc...

Spend more money for someone like Sky or Virgin, don't bother with these slightly cheaper but thieving firm.

    Fibre large plus aytime phone
BT, even if they managed to cancel an offer by delaying the BT infinity service, was giving me a good service with 74mb connection but it was around 46 pounds a month... too expensive for me in this period
Few days after passing to TalkTalk (and paying 120 pounds as advanced line rental) , TalkTalk sent me a sort of contract stating a not mentioned in the website 30 pound one off charge for Fibre -> first complaint as I have already fibre installed at home and there was no mention of this charge in their website or the order form received via email
1 day before starting the service, I phone TalkTalk and I am told that the installation day I will receive an engineer to check the line -> none arrives
During that day for more than several hours, I call them and a message is stating the service will be available in 5 hours I call the support and I was told someone is "manually" installing my services now
I call them again to complain for a dead line and a rude lady agent tells me that as up to midnight I am not active customer and I cannot complain or escalate to team leader. I want to take part in the survey after the phone call and the agent waits for me to close the call, as she is not allowed to close the call before the customer.
Day after: For their website, I have phone line but my fibre is a little slow. In the reality, my phone is silent like a fish.
I call them to complain and before working on the issue, they want me to test by removing the plate at the master socket. I work 12 miles from home so no case logged up to 19h00.
Eventually after voicing my deep disappointment in the TalkTalk forum I was promised a call back at 19h00 at 21h30 thy produces 2 rings on my mobile... not even enough time to answer but enough for TalkTalk to say they did call back
Day 4 and still no service I call them to have an update (and their support start with usual script listing the problem I reported and telling me the BT needs to visit my property to test the line to see if I have any fault. So no phone on Saturday and obviously no phone on Sunday. I am more than unhappy, I want to speak with the cancellation department and I am informed that as they had no time to investigate the problem, I will have to pay a cancellation fee of nearly 300 pounds, but if stay with them I have not to pay for the BT engineer and I will receive 27 pounds compensation... not even enough to pay for the temp mobile internet solution I use and all the calls I made.
Perhaps Monday I will have a BT engineer around that may or may not fix the issue and if it is not fixed the issue will go back to them for who knows how many day. So far, it is sure that on the 19th with BT I had phone and internet and from the 20th to the 25th or more no service with TalkTalk, I am not free to cancel with them and to move to another provider. My home phone rings somewhere but not at home. I prefer to avoid the description of their mainly Indian customer service and the knowledge of their support (the broadband password is written on the back of the router, they tell you without considering that on the back of the router there’s the wifi password, not the adsl credentials that are not needed with a fibre connection)
However with my surprise after 4 days after the failed installation and still without service I logged in my TalkTalk account and I noticed that I was billed nearly 3 poundsfor the first two days of NO service

Internet connection frequently dropped; customer services poor. The only aspect that is adequate is the broadband speed (on the rare occasion that you are actually connected to the internet).

I have had to leave TalkTalk to save my blood pressure.
I booked a home move on 2 October to be taking place 1 November. On 15 October it became clear that we would not be completing on 1 November and I called to reschedule to the 15 November. Come 1 November our phone and internet was dead. I called TalkTalk only be told that I should have told them not to disconnect the line on 1 November. At no point was this made clear when I called them. Several calls later, and no one seemed to be able or willing to sort this mess out. And now they have told me that they can only install our new line on 18 December effectively leaving us without connection for 2 months. I have today cancelled my contract with TalkTalk, so much for being a loyal customer for 7 years. If you are looking for customer service AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Have huge problems now as they duped me into taking new tv package and 24 months additional contract. It no use to us and after One Day tried to return it only to be told I couldn't or it would cost me £200. Seems the minute I connected I waived all distance selling and cooling off period rules. Only connected as they told me t hurry up and do it or they might charge me! Dodgy practices, terrible customer service, managed to ruin my day after spending long hours with 5 different advisors in UK and India. Bad experience and really want to leave them now. Avoid if possible.

I am originally a Nildram customer acquired by TalkTalk Business through successive takeovers. On October 31, 2013 TalkTalk unilaterally moved me to their Broadband Only (IPS) package.

On the day of the switch I lost my service. Initially I was told it was a nationwide problem affecting "legacy" customers and that they expected to sort it out "soon". Five days later, unable to run my business, talking to tech support several times a day with no resolution, they eventually asserted that it was a problem with the line and officially closed the issue, telling me to contact BT.

Today I decided to try changing my router configuration to let them assign my IP address dynamically instead of using the fixed IP address I've had for almost 10 years.

    Bingo! It works.

I can't easily forgive that oversight on their part, but worse still were the promises of calls back that never came; the confident assertions about "nationwide problems" that were irrelevant; the endless time on hold; the inability locate my account records, and total unwillingness to be told that they were covering and recovering the same trouble-shooting procedure again and again.

Now they are telling me to wait five days for a MAC number so I can go elsewhere. What a nerve.

Very poor internal recording keeping and poor diagnostic procedures TalkTalk. Not recommended.

Talk Talk is the cheapest broadband around but don't be mistaken, they will do everything to charge you extra and say anything to get you on their contract. I imagine that's how they get their money.
The speed promised when I signed up was of 9mbps, I not even got half of that. And yes, I called to complain, a technician came around, then again and nothing really changed. Their usage caps are also ridiculous.
When we wanted to leave, after moving houses, we had to pay £50 to get out of the contract. There were different explanations for that, none of them expected from trustworthy business. The first of them was that there was a fee of £20 for cancelling the contract, which we never did. The second of them was that because they couldn't charge the £3.50 monthly fee over direct debit they charged a fine of £10, and removed me from the scheme charging me them £4 extra because they would collect the money through different means. Dodgy, isn't it? Next thing I know I get a collecting agency harassing and threatening me over the phone. Talk Talk never tried to call me directly and when I called them to complain I was told all I had to do was pay the remaining balance of £21 and the agency wouldn't bother me anymore. I asked for a refund related to the remaining two months of the line rental I had already paid for the whole year but they of course refused to do so. I cleared the balance anyway but Roxburghe kept calling and threatening to sue me if I didn't pay the £30 for their services. In the end I was hooked to Talk Talk for a year, getting slow broadband and had to pay an extra £50 for it. I'd say any provided will be better than them, even Virgin Media, so stay away from them!

Talk Talk service is a complete nightmare. They may be cheaper when everything is going OK but God help you if you have a problem.
Today I have finally resolved an issue that has been ongoing for 7 months. What could this most complicated of issues be you may ask? I simply wanted to disconnect my call plan. I have spent hours on the phone, written innumerable letters, been lied to, contradicted and passed from one department to another. Resolution only came about, by appealing to the CEO, from whom I received a personal apology.
Today is a good day. I am finally rid.

TalkTalk are utterly appalling. On Saturday, 7th Septembe 2013, I returned from holiday to discover my broadband signal had collasped, my laptop, Ipad and Iphone were telling me it was the agent remote ID presented by the DSLAM is incorrect(FTTC103765)with very little enthusiasm, I knew I had to call the dreadful customer service number (in April, May and June 2013 - My wireless broadband did not to work - apparently it was my computer equipment, must be too old to successfully work with their service despite one of them being the latest IPAD!)I was eventually told that as a signal was entering my home, there job was done and it was not their responsibility to actually make it work - a friend of mine, who is IT savvy eventually solved my problem). Anyhow, I relucatantly called the customer service line, to go through the ridicolous checks, which I had already undertaken online, he actually suggested that I take off the phone socket cover and check that it is connected properly (Sorry - am I phone line engineer?)I kept telling him that the problem is the agent ID issue but the indian call centre insisted that these checks have to happen first. The resulting conversation after 45 minutes of absolute nonsence was that it was my fault, must be fault inside the home! To fix this, it will cost me £50! This is appalling, I evenutally got transferred to an engineer in the UK, who understood exactly what the agent ID issue and it is a fault with the local exchange. However, its been 72 hours - I still have no broadband, no idea when it will be fixed and calling customer service for an update is painful. I am tired to speaking to people based in India, with very strong accents - I am constantly repeating myself and asking them to repeat themselves. As I am London based, when the broadband works its great but whenever anything goes wrong I am sure that my blood pressures skyrockets!Since my problems started with Talktalk this year, I have tried to leave but apparently I am under an 18 month contract (even though I have been with them for over 3 years it get automatically renewed!) and it will cost me £475 cancellation fee to exit the contract early. If the service does not work surely there should be a free get out clause?

My Story: Was told 'Superfast broadband up to 76Mb/s', It's their best package for all the family. Spoke to a representative before purchasing, was told "to expect over 50Mb/s". So went ahead and signed up. 1st day after installation (yesterday) was getting speeds of 12Mb/s, which is pretty much regular broadband speed. First tried contacting via online chat. Spent at least half an hour just for them to verify me through data protection. It was obviously a foreign agent as his english was very poor. When asked what speeds I can expect he told me 96Kb/s, I then asked "less than 1Mb/s??" to which he never replied after waiting 10 minutes I decided enough is enough. So I then tried their contact centre, took half hour to get through to their cancellations department. By this time I was so fed up I wanted to cancel my contract. Had real difficulty trying to understand the asian lady in the call centre, when she eventually realised I wanted to cancel she said ok, then placed me on hold for 10 minutes. Finally a lady named Allison answered the phone and she was British and very lovely. She told me that there's a problem with my area's connection and she'll get it sorted for me. She said she'd ring me back today and let me know if it was sorted. So she rang me back at 18:00 and said it was all sorted and have I tried it yet. I've been in work all day so hadn't. I trusted her and thanked her, happy to stay with TalkTalk, even though my 1 day with them had been horrific. So I finally just got in... Yep you guessed it, now I have 7Mb/s for £36 a month. I'm getting the impression that all they are trying to do is keep me with them through the 7 day cancellation period. Thats the feeling I had the day on the phone when speaking to the asian lady. So tomorrow before I clean my teeth, shower or anything else, I'm going to be on the phone to TalkTalk cancelling my subscription. From reading other reviews could be a task on it's own. I'll update in a week or two to let you know if I have difficulties with that. For now I beg of you all to stay Far Far Away from TalkTalk. Oh by the way if it's any help to anyone, Alison (UK,English) rang me off 08009555511.

To cut a long story short, my service over recent months has declined. Wanted to upgrade to fibre to make the service more reliable, was missold products, they seem incapable of cancelling orders within the cooling off period, put mistruths on their account records about what they have said to you and refuse to reply to complaints in writing - they want to talk about it - yeah right so you have no evidence of what has been said!

The worst internet service on earth. I cannot rate below 1 star or negative starts. I regret joining it and would never advice anyone to go for TalkTalk

I have just paid a fee of £95 to Talktalk to cancel my contract early and go over to Sky. Why would I pay to leave early???? Think about it!

I originally signed up with the Freedom-to-Surf, ISP but they were absorbed by Talk Talk.
Some months ago, I started to get problems with losing sync on my ADSL modem, and this happened nearly everytime I picked the phone up. Talk Talk customer services said the line was absolutely fine, and it was 85% probable that the problem was with my equipment or home wiring. After many calls getting nowhere, I eventually replaced my modem/router and microfilter at significant expense. No change. Eventually they sent an Openreach engineer who confirmed it was wiring problems on the BT side of the Master Socket. After the BT engineer went away the sync problem was solved BUT I was back to dial-up speeds. More calls to customer services, and they said it would settle down in a couple of days. It didn't. More calls, and the equipment at the exchange was "manually reset". Since then I get 6Mb/s during the day, but in the evening the download speed falls off a cliff, and I cannot even stream audio without constant buffering problems. The download speed frequently falls as low as 0.5Mb/s.
Many more calls to customer services. First they blamed BT, then they blamed the fact that it was an old Freedom-to-Surf account and promised to move me to a hopefully more reliable account with 7 working days, and I would be sent new login details and password. After two weeks nothing had happened, except the service had deteriorated further, so I called customer services again, and a very brusque agent told me nothing had happened and nothing would happen unless I personally applied for a different account through their sales team, as what I had been told previously was not part of their business process. He did not seem to grasp the fact that their broadband service was faulty and it was their responsibility to sort it out! At that point I asked for my MAC code. This company are a complete shower. In my experience their attitude to customers is, quite honestly, utterly shocking.

TalkTalk's customer care is, in my experience so far (repeated calls over two or three weeks), utterly abysmal, appalling.

Talk talk we were with tiscali and just got taken over we have had months and months of complaints and rubbish speed and connection dropping contantly and wireless router keeps booting people off all the time, so constantly having to re set it. Now speed is fine through day 5-6 mb when nobody is home using it but as soon as kids come home and want to use internet speed drops bellow 1/2 mb making streaming and xbox use practically unusable. Constant complaints and then it will be ok for a week and it will all start again so when you phone up you get the same reply and they want you to unplug everything and spend the next few days testing everything and it all starts again like you go round in a circle, Hopefull not too much longer left on contract now and we will change and hope get better service elsewhere

I've been with talktalk for about three years now and apart from customer service - which has improved greatly- I've been really happy with them. You even get a discount on your broadband for being a 'loyal customer', which is great. But - for the past two months I only have reliable or useable internet from Monday to Friday. At the weekends the signal drops continually and there is zero chance of, say, completing a Paypal transaction or logging into my online bank without losing the signal halfway through. Everything is fine again come Monday morning, but I'm about to renew my contract with Talktalk and am more than a bit reluctant to shell out for what is now only a five-day-a-week service. By the looks of what I've read elsewhere online, contacting them will only result in lengthy and unnecessary discussions about the reliability of my equipment etc, all of which works just fine from Mon-Fri. I just can't face all that hassle :(

If you don't need to contact Taltalk, everything is OK!

My Mother-in-Law was moved to a care home. She wrote to cancel the contract & cancelled the direct debit. Nothing happened. She emailed them. I emailed them - twice. They - after 2 months - disconnected the phone.

4 months later she is still getting bills - including advance line rental!

If you phone them - the call centre is in India and their accent makes them almost um-intelligable.
They just read from a check list and are stumped if you ask them something that is not on their answer sheet.

When this is (eventually) sorted, I abandon my own Talktalk contract. Trouble is, no one else gets a much better rating!

Talk Talk are little more than a bunch of crooks.
I'd been with Tiscali since 2002, and had thus been out of contract for years when Talk Talk took them over.
About 6 months after this I tried to cancel my account - only to be told that I was in an 18 month contract?? They claimed I had arranged this over the phone, this was absolutely untrue. Moreover I'd never had any paperwork from them to actually tell me I was in a contract.
So clearly its a system error, but they would not discuss it over the phone, and instead made me write to customer services. I did so twice, supplying the information they asked, and requesting proof of this alleged contract arrangement. In the end they told me they could go through their phone recordings - for a fee. Also they pointed out that not all calls are recorded so the alleged phone call might not be found (what a suprise).
So basically I was unable to argue with them. Only option would have taken them to county court but frankly I've got better things to do than waste time with idiots like these.
So I just waited for the this foisted upon me contract to expire, and then cancelled immediately. AVOID THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE LIARS.

I am a carer for man with disabilities and mental health problems. They had rang him up and got him to agree to a mobile phone contract that he didn't need as he is with Orange PAYG which suits his needs. I rang them along with himself and after an hour while sorting this out after many departments got cut off. I then decided to email them explaining about these mental health problems where he's vulnerable. They replied saying I needed 'Power of Attorney' and to get a lawyer. We then rang up again and explained the situation together with him giving me authorization to talk to them. After him being with them for 4 years they told us his address wasn't right after both of us repeating it about 6 times! Then how is it we have all these papers from you with these details on in front of us. The representative was rude so I insisted he gats his supervisor on Manager there as I didn't like his attitude..trying to start a fight with me and to get this sorted. Firstly he said they weren't.It's only when I demanded to see them that he got a manger who continued to say his address was wrong! They said they'd sort this out but we'll wait and see. Don't have much faith as he obviously doesn't exist unless there's money to be had! Apart from this we find the broadband OK here. They seriously need to work on their customer service...also not to lie about things on your bill and how it will 'be cheaper for you'...I checked the bills and it would have cost more. I also do not like being mislead into thinking their directories are free also. One person said they are completely free and the next not. We are asking for a vast improvement in customer service and honesty which should be expected.

Hopeless broadband speed. Only 0.34 in city centre. Had been fairly decent before but have suffered slow speeds for last few months. Bought new top range Belkin router but made no difference. Spoke to helpdesk but they only interested in signing me up for 18 month contract. Seriously thinking of changing to BT.

TalkTalk have been steadily improving the speed of their service. 8Mbps in a rural location is commendable. Well done TalkTalk!

I was with Tiscali when bought by Talk Talk. Tiscali were poor but cheap, Talk Talk are poorer and cheap. Line speeds vary from dial up speed to 4Mb/s, up and down like a donkey's gallop! Worst feature line reliability: sometimes the line drops several times a day - very annoying if you are in the middle of on-line banking! Second worst feature: customer service - utterly dreadful. Moral: buy cheap, buy twice.

Have recently moved home with Talk Talk and was cut off within 23 days with no warning or explanation. They had confused me with the previous user who had an unpaid bill. Our direct debit payments were up to date. I have had nothing but difficulty trying to get this sorted out experiencing only being bounced from one incompetent to another. We will never recommend that anyone uses them and are currently seeking repayment of what is owed to us and compensation for a totally dire and upsetting experience.
